The Supreme Court emphasized the need for thorough investigation into any negligence, no matter how small, during the NEET-UG 2024 exam. Recognizing the immense effort students put into preparing for these tests, the court stressed that issues regarding the exam should not be seen as adversarial.
The bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti, emphasized that even the slightest negligence should be addressed seriously. They directed their remarks to representatives from the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA), which oversees the exam on behalf of the Health Ministry.

Two separate petitions were being heard by the bench, including concerns about grace marks awarded during the May 5 exam. The court empathized with the dedication students invest in preparing for these exams, highlighting the potential harm if individuals with fraudulent intentions enter the medical profession.
The bench urged the NTA to take firm action and instill confidence in their performance by acknowledging and rectifying any mistakes promptly. The court scheduled a hearing for July 8 to address these concerns, expecting responses from the NTA and the Centre within two weeks.

In response to a plea for a CBI probe into alleged question paper leaks and irregularities, the court sought responses from the Centre and the NTA. The Centre informed the court that grace marks awarded to some candidates had been revoked, giving them the option to retake the exam or forego compensatory marks.
Concerns have been raised about the integrity of the exam, particularly with allegations of question paper leaks in states like Bihar. These allegations prompted protests and legal action, including petitions in various high courts and the Supreme Court.
Unprecedentedly, 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720, raising suspicions about the fairness of the exam. Allegations suggest that the distribution of grace marks may have influenced these results.
The NEET-UG exam, conducted by the NTA, is crucial for admission to medical, dental, and related courses across India's institutions, both public and private.
