NEET UG Result 2024 : NTA Cuts Grace Marks, Top Rankers Fall to 61 from 67

The number of top rankers in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) will decrease from 67 to 61 after the National Testing Agency (NTA) decided to withdraw grace marks previously awarded to 1,563 students, officials announced on Thursday.

Six of these 1,563 candidates, who took the exam at a center in Haryana, had shared the top rank with 61 others.
In response to the ongoing controversy over NEET-UG 2024, the Centre informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that it has revoked the grace marks given to 1,563 candidates who took the exam for admission to MBBS and related courses.

These candidates can either retake the test or forgo the compensatory marks they received due to time loss.
"Six out of these 1,563 candidates shared the first rank with 61 others. The number of top rankers will now decrease from 67 to 61," said a senior NTA official.

Unless these candidates retake the test and score 720 out of 720, they will not regain their top rank, the official added.
Regarding the impact on other candidates' ranks, the official explained, "The scores of these 1,563 candidates will now reflect their original, pre-normalization scores without grace marks. A revised rank list will be issued once we know how many of these candidates choose to retake the test."

The Supreme Court has refused to delay the NEET-UG 2024 counseling process, scheduled to start on July 6. It stated that the admission of successful candidates to medical colleges and other institutions will depend on the outcome of petitions seeking to cancel the May 5 examination due to allegations of question paper leaks and other malpractices.
