The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has introduced a new course on Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, with admission based solely on JEE Advanced ranks. Only 50 seats are available for this program.

This inaugural course is offered by the newly established Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, headed by Professor B Ravindran. The course code for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics is 412L.

Professor Ravindran clarified that IIT Madras did not previously offer a course specifically in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. There was an initial confusion on the JoSAA portal, where the course was listed as Data Science and Artificial Intelligence instead of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics. To address this, JoSAA has updated their website with a notice.

The JoSAA notice reads: “The course code and name of the following course at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai 4181: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (4 year BTech program) has been updated to 412L: Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (4 year BTech program)”.

IIT Madras highlighted that the new program focuses on math fundamentals, data science, AI and machine learning foundations, application development, and responsible design, with a distinct interdisciplinary approach.

“This BTech course offers significant academic flexibility, allowing students to customize their learning journey through a wide range of electives from both within and outside the department,” said Director V Kamakoti.

Students will have the opportunity to explore various areas, such as speech and language technology, computer vision, and time-series analysis, based on their interests and passions.

“The curriculum has evolved from over a decade of faculty experience. Through this, IIT Madras aims to produce top-tier AI professionals, entrepreneurs, and researchers who can confidently tackle major AI challenges in the evolving market,” Kamakoti added.
