After introducing cultural and sports quota last year, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has introduced a new admission process for students who excel in national and international Olympiads. These Olympiads are competitive exams that assess and challenge students in various academic subjects and skills.
According to IIT-Madras, this entrance, called 'Science Olympiad Excellence' (ScOpE), will be outside the JEE (Advanced) framework and students will be admitted in the 2025-2026 academic year.
Like the existing Sports Excellence Entrance and Fine Arts and Culture Excellence Admission, ScOpE will offer two additional seats in each programme, including one for female students only.
Eligibility criteria such as passing class 12 and age, along with other criteria, will remain the same as JEE (Advanced) for the respective year. The candidate should not have got admission in any IIT in previous years.
Applications for the first batch will open from June 3, 2025. The detailed guidelines and business rules for ScOpE admissions are made available on the following website.

A unique initiative of IIT Madras
Speaking on this new admission mode, Professor V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said:
"The world's greatest puzzles are solved not by memorizing textbooks but by those who break them and create new solutions. With SCOPE, IIT Madras is taking another step towards identifying and nurturing talent in Science Olympiads."
How will admissions be done?
Allotment of seats under this scheme will be based on the ScOpE Rank List (SRL), which will be based on the performance and achievements of the candidates in five Olympiads (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Informatics and Biology). The criteria for ranking will be published on the website.
The admission process through SCOPE will not be through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) portal but on a separate portal ( https://jeeadv.iitm.ac.in/scope ) operated by IIT Madras.
The IITM-SCOPE portal is to be used only for admission to various academic programmes at IIT Madras under SCOPE admissions.
Candidates are required to apply separately on the JoSAA portal for academic programmes at IIT Madras and/or other IITs where seats are offered through JoSAA.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfil all the following criteria to be eligible to apply for SCOPE admissions at IIT Madras:
1. The candidate must be an Indian citizen (by birth or naturalisation) or an OCI/PIO candidate whose OCI/PIO card has been issued before March 4, 2021. 2. In the last 4 years, the candidate must have participated in at least one of the following:
