NEET Counselling Postponement Notice False, Says Health Ministry; Process Expected by Month-End

The Union Ministry of Health has confirmed that the rumors about the postponement of NEET UG Counselling 2024 are false. According to All India Radio, the health ministry stated that the counselling dates have not yet been announced.

All India Radio reported on its official Hindi X (formerly Twitter) handle, "The Health Ministry has clarified that the news about NEET UG counselling being postponed is incorrect because the date of counselling has not been notified yet."

Expected Start Date

Sources informed PTI that NEET UG 2024 counselling is likely to start by the end of the month. Initially, it was expected to begin in the first week of July, but no official dates have been released by the counselling authorities. PTI reported that the process of issuing permission letters to some medical colleges is still ongoing, and additional seats are expected to be added to the MBBS and BDS programs.

An official source told PTI, "The date of counselling will be announced once the exercise gets over to ensure seats of the new colleges can be taken up in the first round itself." The NEET UG counselling process might start later this month.

NEET Controversy

Regarding the demands for cancelling the exam due to alleged irregularities, the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) recently informed the Supreme Court that cancelling NEET UG 2024 without any proof of a large-scale breach of confidentiality would be counterproductive and could "seriously jeopardize" many medical aspirants.

Last month, the Supreme Court refused to halt the NEET 2024 counselling process while hearing a petition filed by NEET candidates seeking a stay on the counselling process.
