The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has revamped its Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree program to offer aspiring students more flexibility and opportunities for entrepreneurship. This decision follows extensive feedback from students and alumni. The updated program encourages interdisciplinary learning, hands-on projects, and entrepreneurship.

The total number of credits in the BTech program has been reduced from 436 hours to 400 hours, according to a statement by IIT-Madras.

"IIT Madras will prioritize innovation and entrepreneurship. With over 380 patents filed last year, IIT Madras has launched an ambitious startup 100 program, where a startup will be born at IIT Madras every third day," said Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras.

Second-year BTech students will have access to hands-on projects, entrepreneurial opportunities, and increased interdisciplinary learning. They can also allocate 40% of total credits to elective courses.

IIT Madras, with its 18 academic departments and advanced research centers, allows students to pursue diverse interests and build a unique academic profile, the release added.
