IIT Roorkee provides multiple scholarships each year to support students who need financial help. Students receive these awards either through tuition fee reductions or direct payments into their bank accounts.

The institute offers undergraduate programs across 10 branches in engineering and architecture. It also has postgraduate courses in 55 different fields, including engineering, applied sciences, architecture, and planning.

Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship

This scholarship supports undergraduate and M.Sc. students who need financial assistance.

What you'll receive:

UG students get at least Rs 1,000 monthly for 10 months, plus a refund of remaining tuition fees
M.Sc. students receive Rs 1,000 per month for 10 months
For dual degree courses, the scholarship covers only the first four years

Who can apply:

Students in General, General (EWS), or OBC categories
Those enrolled in BTech, BArch, IDD, IMT, IMS, BS-MS (through JEE Advanced), or MSc (through JAM)
Candidates whose parental income doesn't exceed Rs 5 lakh annually

Eligibility conditions:

You must maintain a CGPA and YGPA of 7.00 or higher
All registered courses should be cleared
No disciplinary issues or unfair means on record
Fresh students don't need to meet CGPA requirements initially

The scholarship goes to up to 25% of students in each class.

James Thomason (JT) Scholarship

This award targets high-ranking JEE Advanced performers joining IIT Roorkee.

Eligible programs: BTech, BArch, IDD, IMT, IMS, and BS-MS

Key requirement: You need an All India Rank of 250 or better in JEE Advanced.

INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)

The Department of Science & Technology (DST) manages this scholarship for science students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Who qualifies:

Students ranking in the top 1% of their Class 12 board exams
Those with eligible ranks in JEE Main/Advanced, NEET, or KVPY
Candidates admitted to recognized institutions in 18 identified science subjects

Renewal criteria:

Integrated M.Sc. students (years II–V) in Mathematics, Chemistry, or Physics need parental income under Rs 5 lakh
First-year BS-MS and M.Sc./Int. M.Sc. students in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics must hold an AIR up to 10,000 in JEE Advanced or JAM

Dr S.K. Goel and Mrs Kusum Goel Scholarship

Launched in 2022, this scholarship helps financially constrained undergraduate students at IIT Roorkee.

Award amount: Rs 2 lakh per year

Selection process: One new student is chosen annually until 2025. After that, four students will benefit from this scheme each year.

Duration: Four years (normal program length)

Requirements:

First-year B.Tech. students only
General and OBC categories
Annual family income between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh
Minimum CGPA of 7.5 at each academic year's end

Scholarship for Disadvantaged Engineering Students

This program supports two undergraduate students annually with USD 1,000 each.

Duration: Four years, provided students maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.0

Inclusivity clause: At least one award goes to a female student if she meets the criteria.

Eligibility:

First-year B.Tech. students from General and OBC categories
Those receiving a two-thirds tuition fee waiver
Candidates not holding any other similar scholarship

Foundation Scholarships

IIT Roorkee also provides foundation scholarships like the Sharman Foundation Scholarship. These further support students facing financial difficulties.
