NEET UG Result 2024: More Than 11,000 Candidates Score Zero or Negative Marks

More than 11,000 NEET-UG candidates have scored zero or negative marks this year, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA). The lowest score recorded is -180, at a centre in Bihar. The city- and centre-wise results released by the NTA show that over 2,250 candidates scored zero marks, while more than 9,400 scored negative marks.

Low Scores in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh Centre

Several candidates at a centre in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, scored less than zero marks. Although there are candidates from various centres who scored zero marks, the number of such candidates per centre is not very high.

NEET Result 2024: Marking Scheme

Scoring zero in NEET-UG doesn’t necessarily mean the answer sheets were blank. Candidates may have attempted some questions correctly and others incorrectly, leading to negative marks. In NEET-UG, four marks are awarded for each correct answer, and one mark is deducted for each incorrect answer. No marks are awarded or deducted for questions that are not attempted. The NTA released city- and centre-wise results amid allegations of irregularities, including a paper leak.

NEET 2024 Result: Performance Analysis

Data analysis shows that candidates allegedly benefitting from the paper leak and other irregularities did not perform well. However, some centres had a high concentration of well-performing students. Over 2,000 candidates from Sikar centres scored above 650 marks, while more than 4,000 scored above 600 marks. The results for over 23 lakh candidates from 4,750 centres were released in a drop-down menu format for each centre, rather than in a cumulative format.
