The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will launch the 'Sports Excellence Admission' (SEA) program for the academic year 2024-2025. This initiative offers two extra seats in each undergraduate program specifically for Indian students, with one seat reserved for female athletes.
IIT Madras is the first IIT to offer admissions for sportspersons in its undergraduate programs. This program aims to encourage students to continue their sports careers while pursuing higher education.

To be eligible for SEA, students must qualify for JEE (Advanced). Unlike the usual admission process, applications will be managed through a separate portal by IIT Madras, launched on June 11, 2024.
Prof V Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras, emphasizes the value of sports in teaching discipline, handling success and failure, and transforming failures into success. He believes that the sports quota will bring students with these qualities to the campus, serving as role models.
Eligible candidates must have a rank in the Common Rank List (CRL) or category-wise rank list in JEE (Advanced) 2024 and have won at least one medal in national or international sports competitions in the last four years.
A 'Sports Rank List' (SRL) will be created based on candidates' scores from specific sports performances, and seat allocation will be based on this list.
IIT Madras has extensive sports facilities and electives related to sports. It hosts the Center of Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics (CESSA), which offers top-tier sports science courses and develops sports coaching products through strategic partnerships.
