CBSE 10th 2nd Board Exam 2026: Over 6.68 Lakh Registrations Recorded; Science Leads Subject Preferences
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has received 6,68,854 registrations from regular candidates for the Class 10 second board exams. The board shared this update in a press release on April 24, 2026. The registrations were finalised after schools submitted the List of Candidates (LOC).
Out of all registered students, 4,74,491 have chosen science, making it the top subject for improvement. A total of 5,25,655 students have signed up only for improvement, 85,285 are appearing under the compartment category, and 57,914 have opted for both.
In the first phase of the Class 10 board exams, 23,16,008 students passed out of 24,71,777 who appeared, taking the pass percentage to 93.70 per cent. These exams were held from February 17 to March 10, 2026, and the results came out on April 15.
CBSE allows students to appear for the second exam to improve their scores in up to three subjects, such as science, mathematics, social science, and languages. The higher score from the two attempts will be shown on the final marksheet cum certificate.
Among the regular candidates, 2,66,209 are female, 4,02,643 are male, and two fall under the 'other' category. In terms of subject combinations, 1,92,508 candidates have picked one subject, 2,79,227 have chosen two, and 1,97,119 have opted for three.

The second phase of the exams will be held from May 15 to May 21, 2026. The final passing documents will be issued once the second exam results are declared, which is expected by the end of June.
Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj said the two-board exam system gives students a chance to improve their scores without affecting their move to the next academic stage.
